City of Edinburgh Armed Forces Day - Saturday 27 June 2009

The Armed Forces Day was celebrated in the City of Edinburgh on Saturday 27 June 2009.  The day included a parade from the Castle Esplanade to the Mound Precinct.  Other events were held in Princes Street Gardens.

Timings:
  • 12.00 Golden Lions Parachute Drop
  • 15.00 Armed Forces & Veterans gather at Castle Esplanade for the Parade
  • 15.15 RAF Nimrod Flypast over the Castle
  • 15.20 Parade departed Castle Esplanade and into the Mound Precinct in front of the National Galleries
  • 15.45 Ross Theatre in Princes Street Gardens hosted
    • Performances from the Scots Dragoon Guards Band and the Light Cavalry Band
    • Tea in the Marquees - opportunity for members of the armed forces, veterans and the general public to mingle over a cuppa
    • Information stands displayed information about Veterans associations, the Armed Forces and Armed Forces Day
    • Various activities took place; inflatable assault course, a paintball range, Laser Dome and Laser Shot
  • 16.00 Official Speeches
  • 16.10 Military Music set at Ross Band Stand
  • 16.30 "McROBERT SPIRIT - Not for Self but for Country" a film by Iain MacFarlane showing at the Ross Theatre
  • 17.30 Ceremony of Beating Retreat

Armed Forces Day honours the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, and from veterans to recruits.
